Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports the archaeological survey of a ruined parish church founded in the thirteenth century and possessed by the Augustinian priory of Inistioge, Kilkenny (Co), down to the reformation. The site comprises of a thirteenth-century nave, a later medieval tower, and a post-medieval chancel, which may have been built during the days of the Confederation of Kilkenny in the 1640s. The church appears to have been abandoned during the Cromwellian era and was used as a burial place by the early-eighteenth century. A circa eighteenth-century mausoleum built near the church, which incorporates re-used dressed stone, and the eighteenth-nineteenth-century graveyard are also described. | |||||||||||||||
