Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reviews a recent addition to the new Discovery Series of maps published by the Ordnance Survey of Ireland. Covering parts of Co's Waterford, Wexford and Kilkenny, the map is compared with an earlier overlapping sheet in the same series that was reviewed previously (see 96/119). Improvements in the presentation of information from the use and explanation of symbols to toponymical designations on the map are noted, though the omission of some archaeological and historic sites is lamented. These include sites not mentioned in, or de-listed from, the county Sites and Monuments Records -- notably those connected with the Great Irish Famine, military installations erected during `The Emergency' (1939--46) and sites excavated under the auspices of the Bally Lough Archaeological Project. | |
