Abstract:
Report on the shallow excavation of the upper courses of an 18.76m length of the city wall of Waterford in advance of the site's development. Sherds of pottery obtained from the core of the wall and at the lowest excavated layer abutting the wall's southern face suggest a thirteenth- to fourteenth-century date for its construction. The remains of the wall are preserved beneath a layer of hard core and a concrete raft foundation for the modern building. Includes `Appendix A: the pottery' by Clare McCutcheon (15).
