Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Foot and Mouth Disease restrictions prevented conservation work on the engine house at Allihies, County Cork, in 2001 and the funds provided towards this project by the Heritage Council of Ireland were returned. However, funding applications were made to a variety of organisations, which expressed interest in the project, for renovation work in 2002. Other restoration projects in County Cork are briefly mentioned -- the Allihies Parish Co-operative (restoring its derelict Methodist chapel as a museum) and An Óige, which received a grant to restore the roof of its youth hostel, a former mine captain's house, at Kealogue.
