Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Displays and comments upon four old postcards recently acquired by the author at an auction in Dublin. Three of them depict the Vale of Avoca, County Wicklow, one of these being postmarked 1904. They show the Williams Engine House at Tigroney, from which the engine and related machinery had been removed in 1881, in varying states of post-abandonment degradation. A smoke cloud shown drifting over Tigroney in one postcard may come from a timber mill's sawdust pile. The fourth postcard purportedly shows miners posing at the re-opened copper mine shaft at Tankardstown, near Bunmahon, County Waterford, in 1906. | ||||||
