Abstract:		 Fieldwalking and excavations were carried out in 1990 at the site of `Ypwinesfleot' where Saxons and St Augustine are supposed to have first set foot on British soil. A Beaker burial, LBA hoard, IA and Belgic settlement remains, and Roman activity peaking in the fourth century were indicated. Appendices include: `The Beaker from Cottington Hill, Ebbsfleet, Ramsgate' by A M Gibson (283--6); `The pottery' by N Macpherson-Grant (286--93); `Report on the examination of some Iron Age pottery in Kent' by A M Middleton (293--301); `The decorated samian' by Maggy Taylor (302--3); `The Ebbsfleet II bronze hoard' and a fragment of ?flax textile with bronze studs are written up by the author; `Coins found at Ebbsfleet during 1990 and 1991' by C R Wren (304--11).
