Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports work in the area of the medieval foundations of the south-east bastion of Rochester city wall, undertaken in 1991. Documentary and archaeological evidence point to construction by Benedictine monks in the last half of fourteenth century. The 1991 work was aimed at ascertaining the dimensions and construction of a section of the medieval bastion. Information on the type of entrance at the rear was also sought, along with dating evidence for this southern extension. Finds included post-medieval pottery and some medieval pottery. The discovery of peg-tiles indicate a roof. | ||||||||
