Abstract:
Reports a technological study of the 'diadem' (more likely a torc). This truly remarkable object employs filigree and beaded wire and is of very pure gold, with a unique construction revealed by X-ray examination. The separate parts were carefully designed, manufactured, and assembled; the solders have been microanalysed at several points. Celtic manufacture seems assured, though with Mediterranean or Eastern influences. Also examined were the silver cup with gilded 'navel' and the iron brooch with gilt bosses, 6th or 5th century BC.
