Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Reports on investigation that revealed a previously unrecorded late Roman and possibly Saxon (sub-Roman) occupation. Features included Roman boundary ditches (possibly related to garden plots), pits and structural evidence (walls and an oven). Some medieval and later features were also noted. Finds are covered by period. Prehistoric `Struck flint' is by Graeme T Walker (124 & 126). Roman finds comprise: `Pottery (and fired clay' by Jane Timby (126--8); `Roman tile' by Alistair Barber (128); `Worked Stone' by Fiona Roe (128 & 129); `Metal objects' (131), vessel `Glass' (132) and `Worked bone' (133) all by Linda Virner.; `Metal-working debris' by Chris Salter (132); `Coins' by Richard Reece (132--3). Early Anglo-Saxon `Pottery' is covered by Jane Timby (134). Economic evidence for the Roman phases is drawn from `Animal bone', by Mark Maltby (134), and `Phosphate evidence', by John Conway (135). | ||||||||||||||||||||
