A total of 475m2 were excavated on the edge of a 4ha (10acre) double-ditched Late Iron Age/early RB enclosure (cropmark site). An entrance was found and the 'defensive' ditches had been backfilled c mid-lst century AD. High status occupation was evidenced by several large, well-sealed, and securely dated assemblages (including British coins, currency bars, samian and fine wares). The site compares with Bagendon and Salmonsbury. Dating is difficult: the earliest finewares could be AD 10, but could also be post-Conquest old stock. Animal bones are reported in their regional context. | |||||||
