Abstract:
The pre-1860 find shows a head in front of a palmette; the moustache and other masculine features of the face are countered by a female coiffure and earrings. The antefix could represent an intermediate stage between the normal female Medusa head and the wholly masculine Bath Gorgon. The hairstyle should be 1st century AD; an appendix considers the date of the colonia's foundation.
