Abstract:		 Includes short articles on the following: criticism of the public consultation process of the Office of Public Works regarding the construction of controversial interpretative centres; a report by Bairbre Ní Fhloinn (5) of a `Conference on [Irish] traditional architecture' held at University College Dublin in May 1993; a Co Fermanagh project set up to look for burnt mounds (fulachta fiadh) which seem to be under-represented in Northern Ireland; and the publication of a Proposal for a Draft Historic Monuments and Archaeological Objects (Northern Ireland) Order in July 1993. Brief notes are also supplied on the recreation of a medieval medicinal garden at Grey Abbey, Co Down; the discovery of traces of the first permanent European settlement in North America at St Augustine, Florida; the find of the oldest known piece of cloth in Cayonu, Turkey; and the sale of Trim Castle by Lord Dunsany to the Office of Public Works.
