Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The origins of a ninth-century AD gold brooch labelled as coming from Kilfinan `Abbey', Co Limerick, and bought at an auction in 1992 by the National Museum of Ireland are considered in the light of an examination of a nineteenth-century antiquarian's sale catalogues owned by the museum. The brooch, only the second known gold example of its type from pre-twelfth-century Ireland, was found to have come from Kilfinnane in Co Limerick, where a Catholic church was erected on the site of an earlier one (but not an abbey) in 1835. | |||||
