This supplement contains a `Directory of archaeological organisations' (29--31) listing the contact addresses and telephone numbers of various state-funded and professional bodies, university departments, archaeological and environmental consultancies, city corporations with archaeologists, and societies (professional and local) in both Ireland and Northern Ireland. This is followed by a series of short précis detailing the activities of a number of these organisations, beginning with `The Office of Public Works and archaeology' by Anne Lynch (32). Next, there is a note on the `Archaeological Branch -- Ordnance Survey' by Paul Walsh (33), while Aidan Walsh (33) explains the awards system of the `Gulbenkian/Norwich Union Museum Awards' and lists the recent winners in various categories. Aonghus Moloney (34) outlines the research carried out by the `Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit', and Mick Monk (34--5) discusses some of the work undertaken by `University College, Cork's Archaeological Services Unit' (see also 95/205). The research carried out by the `Archaeological Services Unit in University College Galway' is detailed by Kathy de hÓra (35), as is that at `The Palaeoecology Centre at Queen's University, Belfast' by Mike Baillie (36). Information on a number of professional organisations follows, including: `The Ulster Archaeological Society' by Barrie Hartwell (36); `IAPA [Irish Association of Professional Archaeologists] -- The professional body for Irish archaeology' by Tom Condit (37); the `Royal Irish Academy' by Joan Jennings (37); `The Organisation of Irish Archaeologists' by Eoin Grogan (37); and `The Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland' by Paul Walsh (38). Colin Breen (38) outlines the aims of the Irish Underwater Archaeological Research Team in `Underwater archaeology', while Brian Williams (39) concludes the supplement with a note on a branch of the Department of Environment for Northern Ireland -- `Environment Service: Historic Monuments and Buildings'. | ||
