The recovery of around 300 wooden writing tablets, all dating before AD~105 and many damaged by a Roman fire, from Vindolanda. The contents of the tablets are selectively reviewed as is the plan for publishing the remainder. The structure of the fort is briefly discussed, the on-site open air museum and the Birley family's contribution to the work at Vindolanda appraised. | ||
