Offers a reconstruction drawing, compiled from results of twenty years' excavation, for the castle at about 1150. Arguments are briefly set out for a motte bridge and palisade, an apsidal chapel, three-storey tower, and a second two-storey hall in addition to the well-attested one. Granary, outer defence, and a crowded bailey with ?internal fighting platform are also shown: the castle presents a formidable strongpoint. | |||
