The moated Manor House of Down was founded in the later twelfth century but had become overgrown and derelict in recent years. Following agreement with a local Wildlife Trust, a grant was provided under the Ancient Monuments Act (section 17) to clean up and maintain the site. It has now been cleared by volunteers and has been transformed into a place of interest to the public, of use to the farmer, and a haven for wildlife. | |
