Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Examines the evidence for the existence of a 'British' church influenced by western missionaries in Somerset between the end of the Roman period and the establishment of 'Roman' Christianity under the Anglo-Saxons in the seventh century. The author looks at case studies from Street, Kewstoke and St Decumans (Watchet), focusing on church sites with associations with 'Celtic' saints which may be of a genuinely early date and considering the evidence of saints' names, place-names, artefacts and documentary sources as well as topography and other physical evidence. | ||||
