Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The excavation identified the foundation pad of the cathedral, which was laid down in 1179--80 AD. The materials used in the foundations were not uniform. The buttresses did not stand squarely on the foundations, suggesting that the design of the building was altered in the fifty years before the construction of the West Front's façade commenced in 1230 AD. Three large postholes containing fourteenth- and fifteenth-century pottery were recorded. These holes were reused in the nineteenth century to support wooden scaffold poles. | ||||||
