Historical account of the building and subsequent use of Ireland's `only truly military road' which runs from Dublin to Aghavannagh (Co Wicklow). The road was built during the 1798 Insurrection to help capture rebels who had fled to the Wicklow Mountains after their defeat at Vinegar Hill (Co Wexford) on 21 June 1798. However, it failed to assist in the capture of one of the rebels' leaders, Michael O'Dwyer, who surrendered voluntarily in December 1803. | |||
