Brief notes and queries on Irish mining history. In `The Geological Survey of Ireland: mine records database', Gerry Stanley (6-7) discusses the nineteenth- and twentieth-century archives maintained on a computer database, which is made available for public consultation. Peter Claughton (7) follows with `Silvermines production 1838 [sic]', in which he tabulates ore production statistics (derived from a later source) at this Co Tipperary mine in 1638. He then reports in `Bevis Bulmer and the Irish mines' that this late sixteenth-/early seventeenth-century mining adventurer smelted ores from Clonmines, Co Wexford, at Combe Martin (south-west England) in 1587-91. Ron Callender (7) makes a plea for documents or artefacts that could be displayed at the Golden World convention's `Irish gold exhibition in Finland', and Alan Williams (8) outlines some `Mining reports, share certificates and accounts' available at three British record repositories. | ||
