Reports on the Wiltshire Rescue Archaeology Project (WRAP) investigation of the site of the Linolite factory, demolished in 1986, which had incorporated a much earlier building known as the Postern Mill after its location near a minor town gates. Excavation revealed evidence for the continued use of the site since at least Late Saxon times for industrial purposes, beginning with stone- and ironworking, later slaughter or tanning, and then milling and brewing. The topography and documented history of the site are discussed, followed by a presentation of the excavated evidence. There are separate reports on find of building materials, pottery, clay pipe, and small finds. The section covering pottery includes a note on `Roman pottery' (67) by Mark A Loft, and a report on `Medieval pottery' (67--70) by Christopher K Currie. Paul Robinson describes a centenionalis of Magnentius and Decentius and a silver penny of Edward I in `Small finds' (72). `The animal bone' (72--4) is considered by Trudie C Currie. | |||||||||||||||
