Abstract:
Mostly historical. Documents the provenance and successive owners of an unusual eighteenth-century folk art picture. Composed almost entirely of seeds and probably depicting `Darby and Joan', a real-life couple, who were immortalised in Henry Woodfall's ballad The joys of love never forgot. The seeds used are identified, including the use of sorghum, an African cultivar. Places the picture within the context of eighteenth-century folk art, specifically in Wiltshire.
