Abstract:
Reports on various attempts to recut the chalk `Devizes Horse', which was originally created in 1845. An attempt to restore the chalk carving in 1998 was unsuccessful because the area around the site had been designated as a SSSI. Instead a new horse was constructed some 1.5km to the east, based on plans made in 1954 of the surviving outline.
