SU 062332. Recent survey by RCHM of a large RB settlement with EIA origins reveals that it is larger and more complex than previously realised. Sited on the Wylye-Nadder ridge, it occupies forty acres and is mostly well preserved. Multiple boundary ditches define it, and there are Celtic fields to either side. Circular building platforms predominate in the E section, rectangular in the W. A 3½-acre enclosure to N incorporates two banjo-enclosures. Finds from the ill-recorded 1934 excavations and more recent surface collection include fibulae, samian, coarse and New Forest wares, coins, a coffin-burial of late 3rd cent and a T-shaped corn-drying oven. Good parallels to this settlement are Hanging Langford, Ebsbury and Gussage Cowdown. | |||||
