Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Interim report of continued excavations undertaken to investigate the remains of a large circular structure previously identified by survey, to the immediate northwest of Site A, the less prominent of the two monuments on the hilltop at Navan. A third concentric ring-slot was found between the two previously identified, and there were indications that Site C was joined to, and contemporaneous with, the earliest phase of the adjacent Site A, which also consisted of three concentric rings. The evidence of burnt material from the inner and outer slots indicates that the inner walling of both structures was destroyed by the same event which produced the burnt material in the outer slots. The latter included burnt animal bone. Stratigraphic relationships indicate that Site C is later than c. 150 BC but older than the ring-barrow of site A. | ||||
