Pollen analysis coupled with radiocarbon dating has produced a record of land use change covering the period from the late twelfth century to the middle fourteenth. The clearance of a mixed woodland, possibly by human action, coincides with the onset of peat accumulation. There is also evidence for some arable cultivation nearby. A discussion of the wider settlement pattern and economic landscape is included. | ||||
