Abstract:
Over 200 kms2 of upland landscape in mid-Wales were mapped by the Royal Commission from historic vertical air photographs. This is the largest consolidated landscape area to be mapped in-house by the Royal Commission so far. Its requisition for military training in 1939 has helped to preserve it as a relict agricultural landscape. More then 670 archaeological sites were mapped, of which 472 were new to the archaeological record.
