Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
The results of palaeoenvironmental investigations of flood plain deposits at Machynys, Llanelli Marsh, are presented. Radiocarbon dating, palynology, diatom and sedimentological analyses and micropalaeontological analysis of the sequences has shown that deposits of marine and/or estuarine origin underlie the peat deposits that are the focus of this study, and which are radiocarbon dated to c. 4280--3885 cal BP at --1.28 to --1.33m OD and 3220--2795 cal BP at --0.583 to --0.633m OD respectively. The upper alluvial sequences reflect transgressive sea-level tendencies occurring c. 3220--2795 cal BP when estuarine conditions were re-established. | |
