Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
A timber and stone platform was excavated within the toe of the River Usk; the platform consisted of four discrete areas of cobbling; several large oak timbers running parallel to the bank, one containing four rectangular mortise holes; three timber braces perpendicular to the bank; and two timber struts. These represented the survival of elements of a wooden bridge. Parallels with the construction method of a sole-plate supporting a timber trellis have parallels with several examples from the medieval period, although cross-matching of dendrochronological samples was unsuccessful. | ||||||
