Abstract:
Work on Platform 'A', one of a series of large enclosures covering some 4ha, revealed a succession of timber structures built on slightly different alignments and containing at least ten well-preserved iron-making furnaces with quantities of slags and other debris. Among the few artefacts was a fragment of blue cable-decorated glass bangle. Initial archaeomagnetic determinations suggest that the site was occupied within the late prehistoric period. The estimated total iron production was about 300kg, most of which was probably for trade.
