Abstract:
A number of non-porcellanite lithologies are significantly more highly represented in Ulster than the rest of Ireland. In particular gabbro, basalt, flint, and schist. Studies of the distribution, morphology, methods of manufacture and potential sources of these axes provide an important contribution to the understanding of the complex role that stone axes played in the early prehistory of Ulster.
