Note on an iron object found in a souterrain at Ballyholland Lower in 1986 and identified as a pommel-knop from the upper part of a sword-pommel. The knop and curved pommel-guard to which it would have been attached are characteristic of a type of late Anglo-Saxon sword of the late-ninth or early-tenth century, of which examples are known in Ireland. | ||||
