Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Outlines a historiography of stone implement trading in prehistoric Ireland, reviews the aims and methods of the current Irish Stone Axe Project (ISAP) and discusses the limitations of an approach based on laboratory techniques alone. The author argues that a greater understanding of lithic composition in relation to artefact working qualities is needed. The availability of materials, Irish geology and lithic resources are discussed. It is argued that a programme charting the dissemination of workable rocks through natural process is needed. | ||
