Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
C 676065. Excavation and conservation have been in progress for some years at one of Ulster's earliest mortared stone churches. The nave dates to mid-12th century, the chancel was added 1210-25 or somewhat later. A full architectural description is given: there is a fine lintelled and framed W door, capitals with confronted beasts and foliage, and a panel-decoratcd coffin lid reused as paving. Certain parallels with Dungiven and Maghera churches are noted. Also described are the mortuary house, the residence (a fortified vicarage), two stone crosses, a bullaun, and the historical sources for the church. | ||||||
