Abstract:
Describes the freestone canopy to the Royal (or MacMahon) Tomb at Ennis Friary, Co Clare, which was reputedly founded by More Ní Bhrian, wife of Terence MacMahon (d. 1472) of Corcovaskin. The style of carving was greatly influenced by the English (Nottingham) tradition of alabaster carvings, though an incised Celtic interlaced knot was also used to decorate the canopy.
