Abstract:
Records the recent destruction of a number of archaeological sites in Co Clare, including two burnt mounds, three IA bell barrows, a wedge tomb, a castle site, a children's burial ground, and an unclassified tomb. Other sites have been either damaged or are in need of conservation including three ruined churches, two wedge tombs, a children's burial ground, three small cists in cairns, and a structure that may be a smelting pit or, alternatively, a corn kiln. Endorsing the view of T J Westropp who urged people in 1904 to preserve and record monuments, the author asks that any person in Co Clare finding an unusual structure should notify one or other of the two local archaeological societies in the county.
