Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Summarises the findings from excavations undertaken in 2011-12 in advance of redevelopment at York Engineers' Triangle, formerly the York South Motive Power Depot, and explains the significance of the structures revealed. These comprised the remains of three mid-19th century roundhouses and a straight shed, as well as the base of a small octagonal hut believed to have been used as a foreman's and time office and for the storage of oil-fired locomotive lamps. The straight shed was built in 1841 and represents the earliest period of railway development at York. LD | |
