Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
In 1993 the site of a thirteenth-century royal court or llys of the princes of Gwynedd was identified near the village of Newborough in south-west Anglesey. During excavations a number of the buildings of the complex were investigated including a timber hall and associated masonry chamber block. The llys, occupying an area of approximately 1.3 acres, was enclosed by a perimeter wall. An early phase of activity pre-dating the hall and chamber block, represented by a bank and ditch and associated rubble spreads has also been identified. The complex was abandoned in the early fourteenth century, and overwhelmed by wind-blown sand resulting in a high level of preservation of the masonry remains. Specialist reports include | ||||||
