Abstract:
Remains of 110 shafts, pits, and wells were recently discovered in Chartres outside the Roman city; they compare with those at Maryport, Newstead, and elsewhere in the Celtic world. This evidence combines with the ?Celtic mother-and-child sculpture altar, and well (found long ago below the cathedral) to support the belief that Caesar's Druid centre among the Carnutes was here. The evidence is also strengthening for British origin for Druidism.
