Abstract:
Preliminary record of the first certain first century AD hoard of coins found in Scotland. Found during extensive excavations at Elginhaugh in 1986, it consists of forty five denarii, ranging from Republican to an issue of Vespasian of AD 77-78. Interpretation of the find suggests a possible foundation deposit for the fort constructed during Agricola's campaign of AD 79-80.
