Abstract:
SK 559549. The interim report describes 1237 gold coins and nine items of gold and jewellery found at Fishpool, near Newstead Abbey (Notts), on 22 March 1966. There were 1012 English nobles, halves and quarters from Edward III to Edward IV, including the first recorded quarter-noble of the latter. Anglo-Gallic, Scottish, French and Burgundian coins are also present. All extant nobles are dated before August 1464, and the hoard's deposition may be related to the Lancastrian defeat at Hexham in May of that year. Au/Numis Lit
