Abstract:
Two cemeteries, Milfield north and Milfield south, were discovered during excavations at henge sites in the area. Evidence from Milfield north confirms Anglian occupation in circa late-sixth to early-seventh century, whilst Milfield south is of slightly later date. Their situation near to the henge sites is thought to have been deliberate. Finds include copper alloy ornaments, iron ornaments and knife fragments, glass and amber beads, as well as `Textiles' described by P Clogg (21). At the southern site there was also a sword fragment whose analysis is considered in `Blade fragment: metallography' by G Turner-Walker (21). Finally, there is an appendix entitled `Milfield South: features not attributed to the henge or cemetery' (25--8). IH
