Abstract:
SY 673895. Cropmarks indicating two parallel lines of rectangular enclosures, covering at least twenty-four acres and perhaps as much again and situated between Maiden Castle and Dorchester, were recognised in 1968 from air photographs. A trial excavation across the ditch of a one-acre enclosure, apparently contemporary with the rest, yielded Durotrigian pottery that could date to either side of AD 43. The discovery poses questions as to the relationship between the settlement and the hillfort. R A H F (co-Au)
