Abstract:
A corn-mill probably of the second half of the 17th century was excavated, the site also producing indications of an undefined medieval occupation; a largely wooden mill building on stone stills was indicated by rubble and nails, and the channel located seemed likely to have fed an overshot or breast wheel. A second, deeper, channel may have increased the flow to the wheel, or drained the pond. The mill house was probably a cob cottage. Material items were utilitarian and mostly local: Donyatt pottery, small amounts of vessel glass, and metal objects typical of a smallholder's possessions, although window-glass suggests the miller's wealth to have been somewhat above this level.
