Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Description of excavations at a group of cropmark enclosures, which were identified as a probable Roman military enclosure, constructed in pre-Flavian times, on the basis of coin and samian evidence. A series of ditches from different parts of the site were excavated. The site appears to have been abandoned in the late-Neronian or Vespasianic period, but was re-occupied in the Antonine period and continued to be used until the late-fourth or early-fifth century, when there are indications that buildings in its vicinity were burnt down and at least one of the ditches deliberately infilled.
