Abstract The abstract describing the content of the publication or report |
Discusses two reused roundels, which were revealed during late-eighteenth- or nineteenth-century church restorations, but whose provenance has been forgotten. On the obverse of both were apparently subsidiary elements of a large late-sixteenth or early-seventeenth-century brass; one depicting a pair of compasses, while the other has a schematic representation of a quadrant/sextant. On the reverse of one of the roundels a demi-figure of a priest is shown, encircled by a Latin inscription reading `here lies Thomas Quythed third Master of this College', who is identified as a priest of the diocese of London in the early-fifteenth-century. | ||||||
