Abstract:
In the summer of 1992 CAU examined the remains of a round barrow which had been damaged during trenching work and haul-road construction. The developer concerned agreed to fund a programme of recording and restoration at the monument. The work undertaken reinforces the concept of the barrows on the St Austell granite as a ritual group sharing certain features from a combination of structural elements yet each with its own complex history and individual characteristics. The barrow was re-profiled to form a circular mound 17m in diameter and 1m high, the objectives being to preserve the damaged remains by burial and make further damage less likely. There are reports on `The environmental evidence' by K Crabtree (31-2) and `The finds: flint report' by B Lewis (32).
