Summary of the archaeological sections of the National Parks Review Panel report Fit for the Future (0 861702 91 3; Countryside Commission, £20). Makes strong recommendations for better provisions for the protection and management of the archaeological monuments and historic buildings in the National Parks. The report stresses the importance of survey and inventory and of systematic research. Doubts are cast on the effectiveness of statutory protection within the Parks. The report also discusses the architectural heritage and makes recommendations for giving higher priority to the protection and sensitive management of historic buildings in the National Parks.
