Abstract:
The Iron Age seems deceptively familiar, near-historical, and easy to interpret, but we have to recognize its differences. 'Celtic Society' never really existed; the finds assemblages are very small in relation to the length of time involved; pit contents are not 'normal' rubbish but ceremonial depositions, and so on. Everyday Iron Age things are problematic and we need to apply the powerful new approaches now being used in Neo-BA studies.
